Custom means the entire system.

Door construction, track geometry, springs, hardware, operator, finished jambs and the architecture all need to work together.

Start with what you want the garage to look like—and how you want to use it.

On a custom home, the garage is often more than a place to park. It may be a show garage, workshop, home gym, golf simulator, storage space or the home of a two-post or four-post vehicle lift.

A standard garage door layout can consume some of the most valuable space in that room. Horizontal track, back hangs and a conventional trolley opener can all occupy the ceiling area even when the home was designed with significant height above the opening.

We approach custom work differently. We consider the architecture, finished opening, door construction, ceiling height, roof pitch, track geometry, finished door weight, spring system, hardware, operator and intended use of the garage before deciding how the system should be built.

From authentic wood to modern glass—and the unusual stuff in between.

The door itself can become a major architectural feature. We work through construction, appearance, glass, weight and operation so the finished product makes sense both visually and mechanically.

Wood Overlay

Custom Wood Overlay Doors

Wood and composite overlay systems can create deep architectural profiles, plank designs, carriage-house patterns, cross-bucks, custom rails and stiles, and other details that give a sectional door the presence of custom millwork.

Natural Wood

Solid & Handcrafted Wood Doors

When the project calls for authentic material, real wood provides natural grain, depth and character. Wood species, construction, finish, moisture exposure, finished weight and maintenance all become part of selecting the right system.

Authentic Carriage

True Swing-Out Garage Doors

Not every carriage door has to imitate a swing door. Authentic swing-out systems operate from side hinges instead of overhead sectional track. Exterior clearance, grade, hardware, automation and weather sealing all need to be considered during design.

Modern Architecture

Full-View Aluminum & Glass

Aluminum framing and large glazed openings work especially well with contemporary architecture, show garages and entertaining spaces. Frame finish, glass type, privacy, window layout and reinforcement can all become part of the design.

Oversized

Large & Heavy Custom Doors

Wide openings, tall doors, wood, architectural overlays and large amounts of glass can create significant finished door weight. Springs, cables, drums, shaft, reinforcement, track and operator selection should all be matched to the actual application.

One-Off Design

Bring Us the Idea

Some projects start with an architectural elevation, inspiration photo or sketch instead of a garage door model number. That's fine. We can work backward from the desired result and help determine what door and operating system can realistically accomplish it.

The garage door should work around the space—not take it over.

High-lift, follow-the-roof-pitch and other specialty track configurations can preserve valuable overhead room. Pair the right track geometry with a compatible wall-mount operator and the garage can function very differently from a conventional builder-grade layout.

01 / VEHICLE LIFTS

Car Lifts

Two-post and four-post lifts need vertical clearance above the vehicle. If standard horizontal track and a center-mounted opener occupy that same space, the garage door becomes the obstacle. Where the structure allows, high-lift or specialty track can move the open door higher and help preserve clearance for the lift.

02 / SIMULATOR SPACE

Golf Simulators

Golf simulator rooms benefit from clear height and an unobstructed hitting area. We can evaluate the door travel, track, back hangs and opener location with the simulator layout in mind instead of leaving a conventional opener rail and low horizontal track in the middle of the space.

03 / TRAINING SPACE

Home Gyms

Squat racks, pull-up bars, rings and other training equipment can compete with standard garage door hardware for overhead room. Specialty track can help take advantage of ceiling height that would otherwise be lost when the garage door is open.

04 / ORGANIZATION

Overhead Storage

Ceiling racks, platforms, kayak storage and seasonal storage need predictable clearance. Planning the garage door travel early lets us evaluate where storage can live without interfering with the moving door, springs, track or operator.

Standard track is one configuration—not the only configuration.

The shape of the garage should help determine the path of the door. Depending on the structure and door, specialty track can take advantage of additional wall height, pitched ceilings and other architectural conditions.

High Lift

High-Lift Track

High-lift track extends the vertical travel above the opening before the door transitions toward the ceiling. This can move the open door substantially higher than a standard-lift configuration and preserve usable overhead space.

Follow the Roof

Follow-the-Roof-Pitch Track

On a garage with a pitched or vaulted ceiling, the horizontal portion of the track can be configured to follow the roof pitch in appropriate applications. Instead of hanging level below the ceiling, the track travels with the architecture and can preserve additional interior space.

Vertical Lift

Vertical-Lift Applications

Where sufficient wall height exists above the opening, vertical lift allows a sectional door to continue upward instead of turning horizontally over the garage. The building, clearances, door and counterbalance system determine whether the configuration is appropriate.

Custom Geometry

Track Built Around the Structure

Beams, roof slopes, lighting, vehicle lifts, storage, finished ceilings and other conditions can affect where a garage door can travel. We measure the actual space before deciding which track geometry makes sense.

A beautiful stucco opening shouldn't automatically get builder-grade perimeter trim.

Traditional residential garage door installations commonly use exterior perimeter stop with a flexible vinyl flap around the sides and top of the opening. That works—but it isn't the only way to detail a custom opening.

On certain finished stucco and architectural jamb applications, we can evaluate an oversized sectional door with reverse-angle track and an interior reverse-angle sealing system.

Instead of sizing the door essentially to the finished opening and covering the exterior edge with conventional perimeter stop, the door can typically be sized approximately two inches wider so the sections overlap the finished jambs. Reverse-angle mounting then provides a different track and sealing detail from the inside of the opening.

The goal is a cleaner architectural transition at the exterior—not simply adding trim because that's how every standard garage door is installed. Exact door overlap, track position, seal and structural attachment are determined from the actual opening and field conditions.

Custom Jamb Detail Stucco + Reverse-Angle Track
Approximately 2" Oversize In an appropriate application, the sectional door can typically be ordered approximately two inches wider than the finished opening to create jamb overlap. Final sizing is field verified.
Reverse-Angle Track The vertical track is mounted using reverse-angle hardware rather than a conventional residential bracket-track arrangement.
Interior Jamb Seal Compatible reverse-angle seal can attach at the track mounting angle from inside the opening rather than relying on traditional exterior perimeter stop molding.
Cleaner Exterior On the right opening, the finished stucco jamb remains a more intentional architectural element instead of being visually surrounded by conventional perimeter vinyl.
Field Conditions Control the Detail Framing, jamb depth, structure, door construction and clearances must support the configuration. This is not a universal detail for every opening.

Custom garage doors are mechanical systems.

Wood, glass, overlays, oversized sections and specialty track can change the weight and operating characteristics of the door. The counterbalance and hardware need to be selected around the finished system.

High-lift can also change drum, cable and spring requirements because the door follows a different travel path. Operator selection comes after we understand the door and track—not before.

For compatible applications, a wall-mount operator can remove the traditional trolley rail from the center of the ceiling and pair naturally with a garage designed around high-lift, roof-pitch track, storage, a vehicle lift or another specialty use.

We evaluate the complete system

Finished door size and weight

The best time to solve these details is before drywall.

Alpha Omega Garage Doors & Service LLC works with homeowners, custom home builders, general contractors and design teams throughout Greater Austin and Central Texas. Early coordination gives us more freedom to make the garage door fit the architecture instead of compromising the architecture to fit a standard garage door layout.

Before Framing Is Final Review opening dimensions, jamb construction, header conditions, side room and the desired finished appearance.
Before Drywall Coordinate operator blocking, track attachment, electrical, ceiling conditions and specialty-track requirements while changes are still practical.
Before Ordering the Door Confirm construction, finish, glass, finished size, track lift, spring design, operator and the way the garage will actually be used.

Specialty garage door questions.

Can a high-lift garage door give me room for a car lift?

Often, yes. Car lifts are one of the most common reasons to consider high-lift track. The available ceiling height, height above the garage opening, lift dimensions, vehicle height and garage door travel all need to be considered together before determining the available clearance.

Can you modify a garage door for a golf simulator?

In the right garage, high-lift or specialty track and a compatible wall-mount operator can reclaim overhead space that would otherwise be occupied by standard horizontal track and a center-mounted opener. We would evaluate the simulator location, swing area, ceiling height and garage door travel before recommending a configuration.

What about a home gym or overhead storage?

The same principle applies. If the garage has unused height above the opening, specialty track may allow the open door to sit higher and preserve more useful room for gym equipment or appropriately located overhead storage. Storage must still remain clear of all moving door components.

What is a high-lift garage door?

High-lift track allows a sectional garage door to continue traveling vertically above the opening before transitioning toward the ceiling. It is useful when additional height exists above the opening and the goal is to keep more of the ceiling area clear.

Can garage door track follow my vaulted ceiling?

In appropriate applications, yes. Follow-the-roof-pitch track allows the back track to follow the slope of a pitched ceiling instead of remaining level below it. The roof pitch, clearances, structure and door system must be measured to determine the correct geometry.

What is reverse-angle garage door track?

Reverse-angle track uses a continuous angle mounting arrangement at the jamb rather than the typical residential jamb-bracket layout. It can also accept compatible reverse-angle weather seal from the inside of the opening, making it useful for certain architectural and finished-jamb applications.

Why would you make the garage door wider than the stucco opening?

On certain custom finished openings, we may design the sectional door to overlap the jambs rather than terminating essentially at the finished opening width. A door approximately two inches wider than the opening can provide roughly an inch of overlap per side, but exact sizing depends on the door, jamb, track, structure and field conditions and must be verified before ordering.

Can you install real wood and swing-out garage doors?

Yes. Depending on the project and manufacturer, options can include handcrafted natural wood, custom wood overlays and authentic swing-out carriage-door configurations. These projects require additional consideration of material, weight, finish, clearances, hardware and operation.

When should I involve you in a custom-home project?

Earlier is better. Before drywall is especially useful because track attachment, operator blocking, electrical location and ceiling details can still be coordinated. For highly custom openings, getting us involved before framing is finalized can be even better.
